The generosity of one Kansas City family has inspired the Metro community to turn a Home-Makeover Dream into a reality…
John and Debbie Walker define compassion. A three bedroom, one bathroom house accommodates the living space of their family- made up of 19 adopted children. Over the past sixteen years, the Walker’s have welcomed into their home all of these children who have survived some sort of adversity and abuse. In meeting the family, you learn that Trey, now 16, has undergone numerous surgeries after being left in a closet during a house fire- suffering burns on 85 percent of his body. Martina, now 16, suffered severe malnutrition weighing only six pounds when she was three months old. It is hard to imagine how different these children’s lives would be without the love and care provided by John and Debbie, known by the kids affectionately as “Deb of the Hill”. In the backyard of their home, the children (and even their friends from school) enjoy caring for pet goats and chickens. They have shown how their “heroes” have impacted their life in the generosity they have shown there classmates, literally handing one friend the coat off their back. However, as this great family grows, their living space is shrinking.
The Spectacular Homes family would like to extend an invitation to the Kansas City community to take part in making the Walker’s dream into a reality. The Walker Family Project is recruiting service providers including a Structural Engineer, Plumber, Electrician, construction, and more! Supplies and funding are also desperately needed. This couple and their children are our neighbors and the graciousness of their hearts is contagious. Similar to John and Debbie, please do not hesitate to show this family the support that they deserve.
We’re Helping former Chiefs defensive end, Neil Smith, knock the Walker Family Project out of the park!
